Class 123(1) The correct operation of a low level alarm device comprising a float 11 housed in a chamber 2 the upper and lower ends of which are respectively connected to the steam and water spaces of a boiler 1 by pipes 3 and 6, 7 is tested periodically by moving a 3-way valve 5 inserted in the lower connection 6, 7 from the normal working position shown to a position in which the chamber is connected to an exhaust pipe 8. With the valve in this position the water in the chamber discharges'therefrom and, if the device is operating correctly, the low level alarm will be given as a contact strip 13 secured to a rod 12 attached to the float bridges a pair of fixed contacts 14 as the float falls to the preset low level. By turning the valve to connect the pipe 7 to the pipe 8 the operator can also test whether the pipe 7 is blocked.
