Apparatus according to the parent Specification for determining the impurity content of a liquid by measuring its conductivity and energizing a relay to operate a release valve when the impurities reach a predetermined value, is characterized by having a plurality of relays which allow the liquid to flow through a selected pipe line in accordance with the degree of impurity. As shown, the liquid in a pipeline 5 is tested for impurity content by measuring its conductivity in a cell 15 connected in series with a temperature-compensating resistor 17, the voltage across the resistor 17 being indicated by a meter 18 and operating a first relay 19 when the conductivity reaches one level, and a second relay 20 when the conductivity reaches a. further level. Relay 19 causes operation of a valve 7 to divert the liquid from pipe 5 to a pipeline 8, and relay 20 causes operation of a further valve 9 to divert the liquid to a pipeline 10. The circuit includes warning lamps 14, 24 and a protective relay 25.
