Abstract

3-Substituted oxazolid-2,4-diones are prepared by cyclization of halogenacyl N-substituted carbamic acid esters. In particular, compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0869807/IV (b)/1> are prepared by cyclizing a compound of the general formula: XR11CHCO,NR,COOR1 wherein R represents a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic group, R1 represents a halogenalkyl or an alkyl group, R11 a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, and X a halogen atom. The process may be combined with one wherein the starting materials (II) are prepared by reacting a compound RNH COOR1 with a compound XCH,R11,COX, and in this case the compound (II) may be cyclized without isolation.
