Abstract

The invention comprises benzodiazepine derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0822215/IV (a)/1> (wherein R represents a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, or an aryl or aralkyl group, and the benzene ring of the benzodiazepine compound may be substituted by one or more alkyl or alkoxy groups or halogen atoms), and acid addition salts thereof, and the preparation thereof by condensing an appropriately substituted o-phenylene diamine with an N-substituted piperid-4-one-3-carboxylic acid alkyl ester of the general formula <FORM:0822215/IV (a)/2> (wherein R1 is a lower alkyl group), in an inert organic solvent, at an elevated temperature. Examples describe the preparation of 3,4-[31,41 - (1 - R - 11,21,51,61 - tetrahydropyridol)] - 1,5 - benzodiazepin - (3) - 2 - ones in which R is methyl, ethyl, n-butyl, allyl, phenyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl and b -phenylethyl. The examples also refer to hydrochloride, hydrobromide, tartrate, oxalate, picrate, and phosphate salts.
