[Also in Division G2] 2 - Pyrazoline - 5 - one compounds containing in the 1-position of #-cyano alkyl group of the formula wherein R 1 is an alkyl or aryl group and R 2 is hydrogen, or wherein R 2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group including a cyanoalkyl group and R 1 is hydrogen, which compounds preferably correspond to the general formula wherein R represents an alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group, -NHaryl, -NHCO alkyl, -NH CO aryl,-NHCO aralkyl-NHCONH alkyl, -NHCONH aryl, -NHCONH aralkyl, alkoxycarbonyl amino, aryloxycarbonylamino or aralkyloxycarbonyl amines, including these groups carrying further substituents, may be obtained by known methods, e.g. (i) by cyclization of the appropriate #-cyano-alkylhydreajzine with an acylacetic acid ester, or (ii) by modifying a corresponding 1- # - cyanoalkyl - 3 - amino - 2 - pyrajzolin - 5 one derivative (which may be prepared, for example, by the cyolization of an appropriate hydrazine with the ethyl ester of #-imino - # - ethoxy - propionic acid). The # - cyanoalkyl - hydrazine starting materials may be obtained by reacting the appropriate α-cyanoalkene with hydrazine hydrate.
