A centrifugal pump which is surmounted by its driving motor comprises a pump casing 14, an end cover 13 on the end of the pump casing opposite the suction intake, a driving motor 11 operatively connected to the impeller shaft 16 and mounted on the end cover 13, a pump impeller 15 on the shaft 16, a diffuser 18 mounted on the end cover, one or more packing- rings 20 spacing the diffuser from the impeller, and a suction intake guide 21 having a slightly flexible sealing-plate 23 which is mounted on the pump casing and separates the suction chamber from the discharge. chamber of the pump. The impeller, diffuser, packing-ring or rings, and the suction intake guide have mating surfaces whereby they may be positively centred relatively to one another prior to assembly in the pump casing so that any slight misalignment of the motor with pump casing does not adversely affect the operation of the pump. The diffuser 18, as shown, is centred on a spacer 19 in turn centred on the end cover 13. The motor 11 is mounted on a bracket extension 12 of the cover 13. The plate 23 may be integral with the suction intake guide 21, as shown on the left of the Figure and be provided with a sealing face 24, or it may be freely centred on the intake guide, as shown, on the right and co -operate with sealing faces 25, 26.
