868,680. Drying webs. TIMSONS Ltd., and COATES BROS. & CO. Ltd. Jan. 15, 1960 [Feb. 9, 1959], No. 4442/59. Class 34(1) Apparatus for drying paper, textile or knitted fabrics, film &c. in web form according to Specification 868,679 and utilizing burners according to Specification. 867,314 has side plates 16 arranged to complete the .enclosure of at least a portion of the space between the spaced runs of the two travelling webs W, W<SP>1</SP> to prevent the ingress of cold air to the flames F. The plates may be cooled, be adjustable laterally to suit webs of different widths and have an aperture 17 in the central region to observe the character and behaviour of the flames.
