753,438. Drying webs. MELLBIN, B. F. H. Dec. 3, 1954 [Dec. 5, 1953], No. 35086/54. Class 34(1). In apparatus for drying fabric, paper &c. webs 11 by blowing a gaseous medium through nozzles 35 on both sides of the web and extending transversely thereto, the nozzles being spaced by channels 23 through which the used medium escapes, a screen wall 41 is provided on each side of each nozzle, running along the whole length thereof and projecting farther towards the web path than the nozzle to prevent contact of the web with the nozzles when fed therebetween without tension and without supporting rolls or the like. The nozzles are formed by slits in blast boxes 13 and bent-out edges 37 and the gaseous medium is blown by fans 21 into the boxes 13 via heaters 19 and is recirculated via channels 23.
