Abstract

1,176,829. Drying paper webs. INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO. 23 May, 1967, No. 23880/67. Heading F4G. In a paper web drier, the pockets 64, 66 - - - 74 formed between internally heated cylinders 10, 12 - - - 24, upper and lower drier fabrics 28, 46 and fabric guide rolls 32, 34 38, 40, 48, 50, 52 and 56 are respectively ventilated by heated air passing from nozzles 76, 78 - - - 88 at sufficient velocity to pass through the fabric. Each nozzle is supplied with air from a blower 88 through a duct 90 (only one blower and duct are shown) and the nozzles are formed by bifurcated ends of the ducts which terminate in elongated slots extending ove a substantial portion of the width of the web and having baffles therein to give a component of motion towards the sides of the webs. The nozzles of each duct are mounted adjacent but spaced from the fabric guide rolls. The air velocity from the nozzles is stated to be of the order of 50 ft./sec., at a rate of 250 cubic feet/ minute/lineal foot of fabric width and the air permeability of the drier fabric is substantial.
