868,661. Driving apparatus for endless conveyers. HOLO-FLITE INTERNATIONAL Inc. Sept. 30, 1959, No. 33175/59. Class 78 (1). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXV] A pulley comprises a shaft 61 disposed between and having its ends adjacent two connected together pulley drums 10, 11 and a reduction gearing so mounted within one drum 10 as to be removable from the outer end thereof and having input and output parts respectively engaged with the adjacent end of the shaft and the drum, the other end of the shaft 61 having means for attaching to it the spindle 22 of an electric motor for driving the pulley. As shown, the means comprises crosspins 58, 60 in the hub of a fan 48 which impels cooling air either through the motor or over the motor shell 24... 26 if, not shown, the latter is totally enclosing. The shell is stationarily supported by a pedestal 33 via a sleeve 29 and a member 32 which houses the motor leads 46 and can be adjusted by a bolt 31 to take up slack in the pulley belt. Bearings 39, 41, and 43, 45 respectively mount the drum 11 and rotor 20 upon the motor shell. The gearing comprises three reduction stages 182, 83; 85, 86; and 88, 89, 93 housed in a cage 66 ... 68 fixed in a slide block 62 adjustably mounted in pedestal 71. The pulley speed and axial length may be changed easily by replacing respectively the gears 182, 83, and the intermediate drum 12 and shaft 61 by ones of the required length; alternatively the intermediate drum may be omitted. The drums may be tapered.
