Abstract
534,270. Pulleys and driving drums. COOK, SONS & CO. (1930), Ltd., J., and HUNT, W. A. Aug. 26. 1939, No. 24595. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] Relates to drums and like driving members for belt transmissions of the kind which are driven through reduction gearing by an electric motor housed within the drum. The drum a is carried at one end by an apertured plate b mounted on a bearing b' on a hollow shaft c' forming an extension of the stationary stator c of the motor, the rotor d and shaft d<1> of which are mounted in bearings e, e' in the end flange c<2> of the stator casing and in an intermediate member h<3> of the reduction gearing respectively. The end d<2> of the rotor is coupled by a sleeve f to the input shaft g of the reduction gearing which is of the known type comprising radial plungers h<1> reciprocated by eccentrics g<2> and engaging a toothed ring h<2> fixed to the casing h of the gearing which is connected to the drum by a flexible pin coupling n. The member h<3> which is secured by bolts k to the stator casing, terminates in a shaft h<4>. The casing h runs in bearings m. Air is circulated through an annular gap p by a fan r on the rotor shaft d'. Where the drum is for use in a gaseous medium the bolts k are rendered gas-tight by a sealing cover k<1>.
