Abstract

868,660. Guide rolls of paper-making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. July 23, 1959 [Nov. 10, 1958], No. 25351/59. Class 96. A guide roll 12 for correcting wander of a felt or wire-cloth W or of a travelling-belt 11 for supporting the wire-cloth W of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine, during its travel over a suction-box 26, is pivoted at one end, and the other end is moved longitudinally of the machine by air-bellows 18, 19 acting through a pivoted arm attached to a collar 41 surrounding a self-aligning bearing on the shaft of the guide-roll 12 and bolted &c. to a mount 42 on a bracket 37 providing vertical support for the end of the guide-roll 12 &c. Pressure in the air bellows 18 is controlled by a regulator valve actuated by a shoe 21 bearing against the edge of the belt 11 etc.; the air bellows 19 being maintained at constant air pressure. The regulator valve may be of frusto-conical form, the conical plug of which has an annular groove for air-flow to the bellows 18, and is withdrawn axially by a small amount to provide a variable air-bleed.
