868,456. Endless-plate conveyers. RHYMNEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and DAVIDSON, G. W. Aug. 21, 1959 [Aug. 28, 1958], No. 27641/58. Class 78 (1). In an endless-plate conveyer of the kind having overlapping plates 4 pivoted along their forward edges to axles which carry supporting-rollers 5 running on tracks 6, the axles being connected by a pair of driving chains, a surface 14 extends below the return run which collects fine material adhering to the plates 4, and some of the plates which may be longer than the remainder carry follower rollers 17 engaging a control rail 19 to maintain them against swing- ing rearwardly from vertically-depending position so that they act as scrapers to propel the fine material along the surface 14. At the tail end of the conveyer the rollers 17 pass from the rail 19 on to a cam 20 which maintains them in substantially horizontal position against a curved extension 16 of the surface 14 so that the fine material is returned to the upper run for mixing with fresh material, e.g. coal, from a supply hopper 10. The material on the upper run is discharged by a scraper 12 pivoted at 13. Deflector plates (not shown) direct fine material spilling from the upper run to the surface 14.
