Abstract

867,581. Weighing apparatus. WINGET Ltd. Oct. 2, 1957 [Oct. 5, 1956], No. 30485/56. Class 143 [Also in Group XIX] A hydraulic weighing or force measuring device has a multiple piston and cylinder unit 12, 13 which is connected to load responsive cells 50, 51, 52, and a pressure gauge 54 which registers the sum or difference of the pressures generated in the cells. The cylinder 12 is provided with annuli 2, 3, 4 between which are located discs 14, 15, 16 on the piston 13, and rubber sealing rings 27, 30 co-operate with the annuli and discs to form pressure chambers 31-36 which are connected to cells and gauges as desired. As shown, chambers 32, 34 are open to atmosphere and are not in use. In various modifications (not shown) the discs may slide freely in the cylinder, or they may be replaced by flexible diaphragms attached to the cylinder walls and piston rod. Also movement of the piston may be resisted by a spring device, in which case the deflection of the piston under load is measured mechanically to give an indication of the force or weight to be ascertained.
