Abstract
556,195. Pressure gauges. BARNET INSTRUMENTS, Ltd., and GRANT, C. R. A. June 15, 1942, No. 8195. [Class 106 (ii)] An apparatus for calibrating or checking pressure responsive instruments such as pressure gauges, comprises a variable volume chamber, arranged in parallel with the instrument to be tested, and supplied with fluid under pressure, the force derived from the pressure in the variable volume chamber acting on a spring which, by its amount of deflection, serves to give an indication of the pressure of the fluid. A reservoir supplies fluid to a force pump 15 which supplies the fluid under pressure to a pressure gauge 17 being tested and to a cylinder 2 to displace a piston 3, the rod 5 of which acts on a plate spring 11, the deflection of which is measured by a micrometer gauge 12. The pressure may be obtained by calculation, or the gauge 12 may be calibrated in pressures according to the spring 11 used. The gauge 12 may be replaced by a movable mirror and optical beam. Electrical contacts may be used to indicate when the gauge contacts spring 11 or when the spring has been deflected a certain amount.
