Abstract

867,384. Cleaning tanks. IN'T. VELD, C., and IN'T. VELD, J., [trading as IN'T. VELD C. & JOH., GEB.]. Oct. 28, 1958 [Oct. 31, 1957], No. 34536/58. Class 138(1). A tank cleaning apparatus comprises a casing, rotatable about a vertical axis, through which liquid is supplied to pairs of nozzles mounted on the casing, rotatable about a horizontal axis, and at 90 degrees to each other in a vertical plain perpendicular to said horizontal axis, the nozzles oscillating about the horizontal axis as the casing turns about its vertical axis. As shown, a handle 1 supports a casing 2, the interior 3 of which is supplied with liquid under pressure, and attached to which is a casing 5 rotatable on ball bearing 4. Turbine 18 drives shaft 19 which, by way of two worm and wheel reduction gears (not shown) drive shaft 25 which by means of gears 26 and 28 drive internal gear 27 of casing 5 and internal gear 29 of member 17. This member has a helical thread of non-uniform pitch, the threads being closer at the centre, which engages member 16 and causes slidable blocks 12 to rise or fall on columns 11 at a non-uniform rate, thus turning arms 14 which rotate sleeves 7 and slide in bushings 15. Nozzles 8 and 9 rotate with sleeve 7 through which they are supplied with liquid under pressure from casing 5, the non-uniformity of their rate of rotation causing the jets to pass more slowly over the corners of the tank than the other parts. Jet 9 may be larger than jet 8 and a return thread with a considerably greater pitch may be provided on member 17. Specification 516,366 is referred to.
