Abstract

867,116. Stud and socket fastenings; strap fastenings. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 18, 1958 [Oct. 2, 1957; July 18, 1958], No. 29902/58. Class 44. A flexible strap 10, e.g. for retaining an article 48 such as a pipe, has a row of apertures 20 towards one end 18 thereof and adjacent the other end 16 a resiliently deformable lug 14 formed of the same material as and projecting away from a wider surface of the strap, the lug, which has a shoulder 26 spaced from and facing the surface of the strap, being such that it can be pushed through a hole 32 in a rigid support 34 so that the support is held between the shoulder 26 and the surface of the strap. The lug 14 has a second shoulder 24 for engaging a support which is too thick to be engaged by the shoulder 26. Projecting from the strap 10 on the side thereof opposite the lug 14 is another lug 22 having a shoulder 52, and to retain the article 48 the strap is bent around the latter and then secured by engaging one of the apertures 20 over the lug 22, so that the end 18 of the strap is held between the shoulder 52 and the adjacent side of the strap. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), in which the hole in the support is at an edge thereof, the lug 22 is dispensed with and the lug 14 is used for engaging both the hole in the support and one of the apertures 20. The strap and the or each lug are preferably formed integrally of a resilient synthetic plastic material, the lug 14 being hollow.
