Abstract

867,011. Indicating liquid levels. ENGELHARD HANOVIA Inc. Nov. 19, 1957 [Jan. 22, 1957], No. 36002/57. Class 123(1) A device for indicating the level of liquid 12 in a tank 8, e.g. the level of water in a boiler drum, comprises a gauge glass tube 4 containing a float 18 on which is mounted a magnet 20. Mounted adjacent the tube 4 is a vertical strip 22 to which is affixed a number of spring steel reeds 24 each having a bent-over portion 26 which lies parallel to the front plate 28 of the gauge. The front plate has two vertical slots 30, 32 through which is viewed the row of reed portions 26, each portion being coloured to present a black panel 38 between two white panels 34, 36. In operation the black panels 38 are aligned behind the slot 30 so that a black strip is seen therethrough except where it is interrupted by the white panel 34 of the reed positioned adjacent the magnet and displaced thereby. The level 16 is additionally indicated by the appearance of the white panel 36 of the displaced reed in the otherwise empty slot 32. The reeds may be provided with contacts 42 which engage fixed contacts 44 to complete or interrupt an indicator or alarm circuit. Specification 720,223 is referred to.
