Abstract
529,618. Indicating liquid levels. VERMOHLEN, M. June 5, 1939, No. 16439. [Class 123 (i)] A gauge channel a is provided with mica strips b at front and rear, secured by metal covers c having alternate slots d and webs f. The covers c are so placed in relation to one another that light entering at x passes through the steam space without appreciable deflection and emerges through a corresponding slot d, while light entering at y is refracted by the water and intercepted by a web f. A light-guiding screen g has relatively long narrow guide channels h while a corresponding screen i has larger light-guiding channels k. The emergent light is received on a frosted glass screen m so that it is visible over a wide range. In a modification, Fig. 2, the slots d are uninterrupted, and light is received through a narrow vertically-extending channel h. Light passing through the steam space emerges through the wider channel k, but light refracted by the water is intercepted by the solid part of the plate c.
