866,567. Siphon-discharged flushing cisterns. LAWLEY Ltd., W. & J., and GAUNT, H. J. July 24, 1957 [July 24, 1956], No. 22809/56. Class 26. In a siphon S for a flushing cistern a cylinder 5, communicating with an up leg 9 has a plunger 6 to displace liquid into the leg 9, in which a down leg 10 is spacedly arranged, and having an opening 17 embracing the exterior of the lug 10 with a leakproof joint at least on the siphoning stroke of the plunger, the lower end of the leg 10 having a screw threaded portion 21 projecting below the cylinder engaging a threaded part of a flanged extension delivery tube 25 with lugs 24 matching lugs on the cylinder base 22, clamped together by screws 26. The leg 9 may be circular, or approximately oval or oblong in cross section. The cylinder 5 and the legs 9 and 10 may be of thermoplastic, and the head of the up leg may be closed by a cap of like material. The opening 17 virtually surrounds the leg 10, fitted in a leakproof manner by a suitably bored flexible diaphragm 8 on the plunger 6 with openings 7, a rod 11 extending from it through a sleeve 13 in a cylinder wall 14 and carrying an elastic sleeve 16 serving as a resilient buffer for the plunger 6 on raising the rod 11.
