910,716. Siphon-discharge water-wastepreventers. ARMITAGE WARE Ltd., and STOTT, C. K. April 27, 1961 [Jan. 27, 1960], No. 2893/60. Class 26. A syphon mechanism for a flushing cistern 1 comprises a body 2 with a down leg 4 connecting with an up leg 3 accommodating a plunger 7 which is a non-liquid tight fit in the leg 3, and a flexible diaphragm 11 resting on the plunger 7 substantially to seal the space between it and the leg 3 during its upward movement and freely mounted about a manually-operable plunger rod 8 upstanding on the plunger 7, so that when the said movement is ended the diaphragm 11 is free to remain in suspension at the upper limit of its stroke whilst the plunger 7 and rod 8 return to their initial position but is subsequently restored on to the plunger 7. A weight 12 is loosely mounted about the rod 8 and rests on the diaphragm 11 to assist its fall. The up leg 3 incorporates a cylindrical part 6 for the plunger 7, which has one or more through ports 10, the rod 8 being hollow and apertured at 13 to permit ingress of air down it into the leg 3. The rod 8 reciprocates in a bush 9, but according to the Provisional Specification it may be mounted differently and the ports 10 are different in form.
