Abstract

A composition for the treatment of gastroduodenal peptic ulcer comprises a 1 to 10% solution of urea in water saturated with carbon dioxide and containing a water-soluble buffer, e.g. sodium citrate, to maintain the pH of the solution at 6.0 to 7 at room temperature. The invention also includes solid compositions which will provide such solutions on dissolution in water, such compositions also comprising an alkali carbonate or bicarbonate and a solid acid e.g. citric or tartaric acid.
