Abstract
A stabilized solution for parenteral use comprises hyaluronidase in amount to provide 25-1000 TRU (as defined) per millilitre, ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid equivalent to 0.1 to 1.0 disodium ethylene diamine tetra-acetate dihydrate per millilitre, approximately 0.1 to 0.2M sodium chloride, approximately 0.25 to 0.3g. calcium chloride for each gram of disodium ethylenediamine tetra-acetate dihydrate equivalent and a non-toxic buffer to bring the pH to 4.5 to 8.0. A preservative such as sodium ethylmercurithiosalicylate may be present. If a phosphate buffer is used the calcium chloride should be added after the ethylene diamine tetracetate or together with it to avoid precipitation of calcium phosphate. Local anaesthetics (e.g. procaine hydrochloride) may also be present. An example describes the preparation of a composition comprising in pyrogen-free water, sodium chloride, disodium ethylenediamine tetra-acetate dihydrate, calcium chloride, phosphate buffer and hyaluronidase.
