Classes 64(1) and 64(3) A pipe 12 for a heat exchanger disposed above a burner comprises a thickened wall portion at the side nearest the burner extending up to 45 degrees on either side of a medial line a-a, and an internal rib 19. The pipe may be oval, circular or angular in cross-section. The heat exchanger is positioned at the top of a shaft-like combustion chamber and is supplied with water through a pipe coiled around the outside of the chamber, the outlet pipe passing downwards through the chamber.
