Abstract
1333980 Boilers CLARKE CHAPMANJOHN THOMPSON Ltd 28 July 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 36750/71 Heading F4A In a water or steam boiler, in particular for waste heat recovery, hot gas tubes 3 pass through a water shell 1 and a by-pass duct 8 is provided with butterfly valves 7, 9 whereby the amount of gas passing through the tubes may be adjusted. The valves 7, 9 are mounted on a common rotatable shaft 10 and are arranged so that one may be closed while the other is open. The embodiment shown is a vertical fire-tube boiler suitable for the recovery of waste heat from a ship's diesel engine, duct 6 being connected to the engine's exhaust. The by-pass duct is shown outside the water shell but in a further embodiment (Figs.. 3, 4, not shown] is mounted within it.
