Abstract

865,258. Grid electrodes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 28, 1960 [Feb. 12, 1959], No. 4963/59. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XXIII] Grid wire is secured to a grid frame at at least some of the regions of its intersections therewith by means of a devitrifiable frit (see Group XXIII). The frit may be applied to the grid at regions 4 and 4<SP>1</SP> or 5 in the form of a suspension in a nitrocellulose binder. The binder may be driven off and the frit first sintered into a coherent mass and then devitrified by heating for 20 to 30 minutes at 450‹C., after which the melting point of the frit is about 850‹C., so that the grid may afterwards be de-oxidized at 600‹C. in hydrogen without melting the frit. The grid may comprise goldplated tungsten wire wound on molybdenum support rods 1, which are spaced by straps 2 spot-welded thereto. Grids comprising goldplated tungsten wire secured to copper-plated molybdenum rods by heating to 750‹C. to form a copper-gold alloy are referred to.
