Abstract

A lubricating oil composition comprises a major proportion of at least one dicarboxylic acid diester having lubricating properties, tricresyl phosphate, and at least one antioxidant selected from:-xylidine-1,2,6; p-nitroaniline; 5-nitrotoluidine-1,2; alpha- or beta - naphthylamine; o - phenylene - diamine; pyrogallol; phloroglucinol; indole; alpha-aminopyridine; xanthydiol; diphenylguanidine; alloxan; naphthalene - diol - 2,7; and poly-(hydroxyphenyl)-pentadecanes. Diester lubricants mentioned are dialkyl (e.g. 2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, azelate and adipate. The composition may also contain a V.I. modifier, e.g. a polymethacrylate or a polyfumarate such as the polymer of dioctyl fumarate. The composition may be used as a lubricant or hydraulic fluid.
