Abstract

864,451. Cycle saddles. WRIGHT SADDLE CO. Ltd. April 8, 1957 [Jan: 6, 1956], No. 496/56. Class 136(3). Means for tensioning a cycle saddle comprises a pin 9 which projects through and is turnable from the outside of a hole 7 in a nose plate 5 incorporated in the front end of the seat; the pin 9 has a shoulder 10 which abuts the internal surface of the nose plate 5 and is screw threaded to engage a tensioning plate 13 assembled to a seat supporting frame 1 below the seat. The frame 1 is attached at one end to a cantle plate (not shown) riveted to the rear of the seat (Fig. 1, not shown) and engages the tensioning plate 13 at the other. The nose plate 5 is of inverted channel section closed at its front end 6 by a wall with a plain hole 7 to receive the head of the pin 9. A lengthwise guide rib 8 in its crown engages with a recess 15 in the top of the tensioning plate 13. The tensioning plate is U-shaped, having one long arm that has a tapped hole to take the screwed stem 12 of the pin and a shorter arm with a recess 14 through which the stem 12 passes freely. Lugs 16 are formed on each of the lateral edges of both arms of the tensioning plate which slidably engage the inner side walls of the nose plate to prevent twisting; the lug on the shorter arm also overhangs the frame arms 1 and prevents tilting. The embodiment illustrated shows a saddle in which the seat is supported by a hammock of coil springs attached to the nose plate and cantle plate (Fig. 1, not shown), but the Specification states that the device can be used for other kinds of saddle.
