Abstract

864,382. Inflatable craft. LATIMERNEEDHAM, C. H. Feb. 12, 1959 [Feb. 12, 1958 (3)] Nos. 4553/58, 4554/58 and 4555/58. Class 113. In an inflatable life raft having a canopy 5 the vertical cross-sectional shape of which takes the form, or approximate form, of an arc of a circle (of radius R) extending an angle of rather more than 180 degrees, the centre of gravity C of the raft, when upright, is a distance L below the geometric centre O so as to be self-righting. The life raft comprises a buoyancy tube or tubes 1 made from straight (i.e. parallel sided) sections from which a floor 2 is suspended by members 3 and/or 4. In Fig. 1 the canopy is supported on inflated arch tubes 6, and the height may be reduced as at A-A. In Fig 3 the canopy is supported by struts 9 on tension members 8 spaced round the raft and attached to the top of a solid or inflated central support 7.
