863,806. Suspending curtains. KERSHAW, T., and KERSHAW, J. H. April 26, 1957 [April 26, 1956], No. 12774/56. Class 52(5). An extruded curtain rail 10 has an upper portion 12 of dove-tail section and a tubular lower portion 16 having shoulders 26 for supporting runners 28 each provided with a hookengaging metal loop 32. Mounting brackets 38 consist of metal blocks having an undercut groove 39<SP>1</SP> to receive the upper portion of the rail and a groove 40 which allows distortion of the bracket to grip the rail when a fixing screw is passed through a hole 42 or 52 for mounting the bracket on a vertical or on a horizontal surface. Two support brackets are mounted end to end to allow overlap at the centre of the curtain and screws 36 non-rotatable nuts 34 and plates 39 form end stops. In a modification (Fig. 6) the rail has interconnecting tubular portions 94, 92, the portion 94 receiving an operating cord, and the master runner is a plate 100 having apertures 104 for two runners, a cord-receiving sleeve 105 sliding in the tubular portion 94, and a spindle 108 moved by a screw into engagement with the cord. A return pulley is provided.
