Abstract
863,677. Jointing by stamping. BRITISH ROPES Ltd. June 16, 1959, No. 20577/59. Class 83 (4). A two or four-part die arrangement for pressing metallic, e.g. steel, ferrules or other fittings on to wire, wire rope or wire strand is characterized in that each die face 11, in crosssection, is in the form of a semi-circle or quadrant having short end-portions 13 inclined to the tangent 14 to the said semi-circle or quadrant at the end thereof by an angle of 20 to 30 degrees, preferably 25 degrees. The extreme ends of the short end portions are rounded to merge with the junction faces 4 of the die parts 1. The dies are retained in pairs in V-blocks (not shown) and the upper and lower V-blocks are hydraulically pressed together to compress the ferrule 2. The dies are positioned by guidemembers 6, 7 and 8, the member 6 being retained by end-plates 9. Specifications 825,641 and 863,676 are referred to.
