Abstract

863,433. Sifting apparatus. SMITH, W. D. W. April 24, 1959 [May 8, 1958], No. 14783/58. Class 117 Upper and lower sieve frames 21 and 17 respectively are rigidly interconnected by arms 23, and the sides of the lower frame are attached to bowed laminated leaf springs 12 adjustably mounted on pillars 11 so that the inclination of the sieve assembly is variable. The frames carry stretched wire mesh sieves 20, 22 and are vibrated by an unbalanced shaft 24 carried in brackets 26 mounted on the upper frame and driven by a motor 27 on a pillar. The shaft is enclosed by a tube and includes a solid shaft 31, Fig. 3, and a rod 32 bolted thereto. The upper sieve has a larger mesh than the lower one and tea to be sifted is fed on to it from a hopper 34 via an adjustable discharge slot.
