Abstract

Class 117 In sifting or screening apparatus such as a separator, sifter or middlings-cleaning machine in which the sieve carrier is suspended from the main frame 12, Fig. 1, by pendulum-rods 5 pivoted at either end to the sieve carrier 1 and the frame 12 and is actuated by a free swing drive gear such as an unbalanced rotor system 12<1> carried by the carrier 1, tension springs 10 are interposed between the frame 12 and the rods 5 so as to be automatically tensioned or released on adjustment of the inclination of the rods 5 whereby the sieve carrier 1 always remains in its mean initial position relative to the frame 12. The springs 10, at least on the delivery side, or right side in Fig. 1 of the sieve are disposed at an acute angle with respect to the side walls of carrier 1. The sieve elements may be adjustable in the carrier 1 so that the transverse slope and/or longitudinal slope may be adjustable. As shown in Fig. 6, which is a section at the delivery end, the sieves 2, 3 are inserted in U-shaped guides 14 adjustable in the carrier 1. The longitudinal slope is adjusted by means of eccentric bushes 21, 22 coupled by follower rods 19 operated by screws 18. A transverse slope may be adjusted at the supply end by means such as the eccentric bush 21 and operator screw 18. The general transverse slope of the sieves is effected by eccentric bushes 20 at the supply and delivery ends of the frame.
