Abstract
847,301. Sifting apparatus. McCAW, K. G. March 21, 1958, No. 9181/58. Class 117 Upper and lower oscillatory units 2 and 6 for screening shingle are pivotally supported within a stationary frame 1 by rocker arms 10 pivoted at 12 to the frame and to the units by cranks 13. The frame is supported on uprights, not shown, and the drive is provided by an electric motor 14 driving a shaft 16 supported on the frame and carrying an eccentric from which connection is made to a shaft 18 attached to the upper unit. Each unit comprises an upper screen of relatively coarse mesh and a lower screen of smaller mesh, and the screens are spaced and supported by longitudinal and cross members. Buffer springs may be compressed during downward movement of the units. Shingle is fed from a hopper 20 to one end of the upper unit, and some of it may pass through the screens to be collected below, and the remainder is driven over the ends of various ones of the screens where separate collections are made. Water may be used to assist the flow of shingle. In a modification the units are pivoted to the frame in the manner shown in Fig. 9.
