Abstract
863,183. Hook fastenings. WALKER Ltd., T. Jan. 1, 1960 [Jan. 2, 1959], No. 133/59. Class 43 [Also in Group XXV] A fastening device for wearing apparel comprises a fastening element such as a hook 1a or staple having a plurality of prongs 4a in combination with a back plate member 5 having a face which has an inclined surface or surfaces directed towards a re-entrant cavity 8 or cavities formed by an overchanging flange 9 or flanges the surface or surfaces being adapted to engage the prongs of the fastening element and to bend and diflect them outwardly so as to interlock within the cavity or cavities when the prongs are brought into contact under pressure with the inclined surface or surfaces during the operation of attaching the fastening device to the material of the wearing apparel. The backplate may be circular with a continuous annular or domed inclined surface for engaging the prongs or the plate may be other than circular and may have a separate inclined surface for each of the prongs. The plate may be moulded from synthetic plastic material and the inclined surface may have metal insertions for engaging the ends of the prongs. The surface of the plate may be ornamented and may have the form of a button.
