Abstract
862,704. Blasting fuzes. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Nov. 17, 1959, No. 39022/59. Classes 9(1) and 9(2). Relates to an electric blasting cap having a metal shell 1 which contains a base load 2, a priming charge 3, a plastic capsule 4 containing a powdered lead styphnate ignition composition 5, a rubber plug 8, through which lead wires 7, 7<SP>1</SP> to a bridge wire 9 are passed, and is characterized by a layer 6 of free-flowing compressible powder, which is less sensitive to imitation by electrostatic discharge than powdered lead styphnate. The layer 6 may be electrically conductive and comprise powdered copper, iron, aluminium, of graphite, or made of explosive such as lead nitrate-bis-basic lead-4, 6-dinitro-o-cresylate, or dibasic lead phosphite. The layer may also be formed of a combustible such as smokeless powder, bismuth, selenium, tellurium, or magnesium mixed with barium peroxide, or be inert, in which case powdered barium peroxide, cement, and oxides of aluminium, zinc, copper, lead, iron are satisfactory.
