862,586. Clocks and watches. FABRIQUES MOVADO: June 18, 1957 [June 22, 1956; June 8, 1957], No. 19143/57. Class 139 [Also in Group XXXV] A timepiece balance assembly is electromagnetically maintained in oscillation and is characterised in that the magnetic part which oscillates with the balance is magnetically screened. In the first example, Fig. 1, the magnet 11 on the balance staff is screened by arcuate extensions 12 of the soft iron armature 10. When the balance is in its mid position the poles of the magnet 11 are aligned with the gaps between the extensions 12. The coil 13 has two windings and is connected in a maintaining circuit having a transistor or a mechanical switch. The balance magnet 21 may be screened by a magnetic casing 23, Fig. 4, having gaps 26 in register with the poles of the armature 20. The coil armature may be a permanent magnet in which case the member carried by the balance staff is of soft iron, the material of one of such parts having no remanence. The member carried by the balance may be cross-shaped, Fig. 2, in which case four gaps are provided in the screen. The windings 14, 15 may each be split into two parts, the second part being located opposite the N-poles of the magnet 11.
