Abstract

862,502. Roofs. BURGESS, D. C. June 7, 1957 [March 9, 1956], No. 7520/56. Class 20(4) A roof comprises a central longitudinal backbone 1 on each side of which are arranged laterally extending ribs 8 formed of pairs of triangular slabs rigidly connected at the rib sides 8 and downwardly inclined from their interconnections, the ribs being interconnected at their lower edges by triangular slabs 3 disposed either horizontally or sloping downward from the member 1. The member 1 comprises an inverted U-section metal girder bearing glass panels 5, the bases of the slabs 2 and apices of the slabs 3 being connected to the sides of the girder. The slabs may consist of concrete reinforced by expanded metal sheeting or of two outer sheets on opposite sides of a layer of filling material, or of flat metal sheets rivetted on the opposite sides of a central corrugated metal sheet. The outer surface of the roof may be covered with asphalt.
