Abstract
497,000. Roofs; metal sheets. HUNNEBECK, E. April 8, 1937, No. 10072. Convention date, April 8, 1936. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A vaulted or arched roof structure comprises a plurality of upper members 2 which are arched both in the longitudinal and transverse directions and extend continuously across the span to be bridged in side by side relation, such members being corrugated or otherwise profiled or ribbed lengthwise of the span and braced and stiffened transversely to this direction by means of transverse bracing elements 3 adapted to maintain the arch crosssection of the members. The structure is provided with an undersurface 4 of sheetmetal or asbestos so as to form with the upper members a series of hollow bodies. The' elements 3 may comprise arched-shaped members. The structure is carried by end abutments which are of relatively great weight and may consist of a sheet-metal box-like structure or braced lattice frames covered with sheet metal. The upper members 2 may be built up from a plurality of transverselyarched units which are straight in the longitudinal direction and are bolted or welded together end to end to form a polygonal-arch structure spanning the space to be covered. The upper members 1 may be ribbed or corrugated as shown at a, band c in Fig. 4. The roof structure may be provided with a steel fabric which is welded to the upper surface of the upper members 1 and is embedded in a concrete layer applied to these members. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the connection of transverse stays 3 on a bottom boom which is continuous transversely of the structure and carries an access board or gangway 6 as shown in Fig. 3 (Cancelled). The upper members 2 may be profiled perpendicular to the span. The upper members, instead of being arched across the span, may be arranged so that their upper surfaces slope upwardly from each side to the centre of the span. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
