Abstract

862,341. Cooling lubricants. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. June 19, 1959 [June 27, 1958], No. 21113/59. Class 12 (3). A sewing-machine 1 has a splash-lubricated compartment 2 which is connected by outlet and return conduits 49, 50, with an external oil-cooling radiator 37 located below the compartment 2. The compartment contains shafts 10, 13, 16, having gear-wheels 11, 12, 14, 15 thereon, the movement of which agitates the lubricant so that it is splashed on to a collecting pan 63, connected by a pipe 62 to the outlet conduit 49. The radiator and conduits 49, 50 are filled with lubricant, which is also supplied to the compartment 2 up to a level 68. Relatively hot lubricant is returned, via the pan 63, the pipe 62 and the conduit 49, to the radiator at 61, and cool lubricant is replaced through the conduit 50. The radiator 37 has corrugated external surfaces and is additionally cooled by air which first passes through an electric motor 18 which drives the machine.
