[Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group VII] Oil in a reservoir in the base of a sewing- machine having a substantially oil-tight hollow frame is splashed by means of plates 101, indented at 103, on a rock-shaft 80 to form an oil mist which lubricates all the parts of the mechanism within the frame. A blower on the shaft of the motor driving the machine maintains a slight vacuum within the frame, so that leakage of oil from the frame is reduced and the machine is cooled by air drawn in through various ducts and bearings and, if desired, through a special filtered opening.
