[Also in Group XXXIV] A lubricating system for a sewing machine includes a pressure pump arranged within the machine and having its suction side commuriicating with an oil reservoir and its pressure side communicating with parts of the machine to be lubricated, and a suction pump also within the machine having its suction side communicating with an oil-accumulating chamber in the head of the machine and being adapted to return the oil withdrawn from the chamber to the oil reservoir. As shown, a pressure pump 2 is arranged within a hollow casing 1 with its suction conduit 7 dipping into an oil pan 5. The oil is delivered through a conduit 12 to an oil distributor 13 having several branch points 16 .... 19, the points 16, 17, 18 leading through conduits to lubricating points of the driving parts in the lower part of the machine. A conduit 25 from branch point 19 leads up to a distributor 29 provided with branch points 33, 34, 35. The point 33 leads through a conduit 37 to the bearing for shaft 30 and to driving parts for sewing tools above the seam-forming station. Excess oil accumulates in oil sump 39 and is withdrawn through suction conduit 41 leading to a suction pump 44. The oil leaves this pump at 10 and returns by gravity to the reservoir 5: The branch point 34 is provided to supply oil under pressure from pump 2, this oil being fed through conduit 45 leading to the suction conduit 41. This ensures a proper suction effect of the pump 44 at low speeds of the machine. The branch point 35 leads by an overflow pipe 31 to a sight glass 27. The oil conduits may be of metal or of synthetic material with metallic connections.
