Abstract

1407450 Rotary positive-displacement machines COPELAND CORP 22 Dec 1972 [1 Feb 1972 (2)] 59522/72 Heading F1F [Also in Division F2 ] A trochoidal-type internal combustion engine 71 comprises a lubrication system including a conduit 93 which leads from a sump 87 to the cavity of the engine such that expansion of each chamber communicating with the orifices 96 by which conduit 93 leads into the cavity results in the suction of lubricating fluid from the sump into the chamber. A float 91 supports a porous member 92 at the end of conduit 93, the member 92 permitting flow at a required rate. This rate can be varied with temperature by adjusting the amount of immersion of the porous member, thus varying the distance from the lubricant surface that fluid has to flow through the pores by capillary action Fig. 1 (not shown). A further conduit 97 leads to the cavity via passage 101, thrust and roller bearings 86, 85, passages 104, 105, 106, bearing 84 and passage 108. When lubricating fluid is sucked into the cavity by expansion of a chamber communicating with passage 108, the bearings 84, 85, 86 are lubricated along with the eccentric-rotary piston bearing 77 which communicates with passage 105.
