Abstract
740,513. Lubricating. DAVEY, PAXMAN, & CO., Ltd. Sept. 14, 1954 [Oct. 8, 1953; Nov. 12, 1953], Nos. 27709/53 and 31427/53. Class 12 (3). Apparatus for priming engines or machines with lubricating oil before the engine or machine is put into operation comprises a reservoir 1 which feeds oil by gravity through a pipe 3 to the bearings, the level of oil in the reservoir being maintained by a pump 9 which is automatically brought into operation when the oil falls below a predetermined level and recharges the reservoirs from a sump 7. As shown, the pump is driven by an electric motor 13 controlled by a flow-operated switch 15. A non-return valve 5 is interposed in the feed pipe 3 to prevent oil flowing back through the pipe under the pressure generated by the main oil pump (not shown) when the machine is running. The reservoir 1 has an overflow pipe 16 leading to the sump 7 and a three-way cock 17 is provided on the pipe 3 to allow the oil to be drained down a pipe 10. A master switch 19 is provided to enable the apparatus to be rendered inoperative at will.
