Abstract

862,134. Fluid-pressure brakes. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO. Ltd. Dec. 15, 1959 [Oct. 16, 1958], No. 33074/58. Class 103 (1). In a vacuum-operated braking system for road vehicles comprising a mechanical transmission 1, 1a between the brake pedal 2 and the rear wheel brakes boosted by a master servo 3 supplied with vacuum from a reservoir 4, vacuum servo devices 5 actuate the front wheel brakes and a separate reservoir 6 supplies vacuum thereto and a reaction valve 7, actuated mechanically by link connection 8 by the brake pedal 2, controls operation of the front wheel servo devices 5. The two brake reservoirs 4 and 6 are charged from a common source through separate non-return valves 9. The above system enables advanced operation of the front wheel servo devices 5 thus providing more even wear of the brake linings. In an alternative arrangement (not shown) the reaction valve 7 may be mechanically linked to the brake pedal independently of the rear wheel brake transmission 1, 1a.
