Abstract
An intergranular barrier layer ceramic dielectric material comprises conductive granules of a composition of either alkaline earth titanates; or of one or more such compounds with at least one of the group alkaline earth stannates, alkaline earth zirconates, and tantalum oxide; or of strontium titanate, bismuth oxide and titania, the granules being separated from one another by a non-conductive oxidized barrier layer. The material is made by compacting powdered ingredients, sintering and reducing in an atmosphere substantially free from oxidising agents, thereby producing a porous conductive ceramic, followed by oxidising wholly in an oxidising atmosphere. The powdered ingredients are obtained by milling the starting material together, firing in air, and crushing the product, this product being substantially shaped with the addition of a temporary binder.
