Abstract

861,103. Ships with air cushions between hull bottom and the water. GRAM, K. F. Oct. 20, 1958 [Nov. 7, 1957], No. 33439/58. Classes 4 and 113. [Also in Group XXXV] In a ship having an air cushion under the bottom air is supplied to, or extracted from, the cushion by a plurality of reversible blowers 10 each driven by a motor 11 controlled by a filler 12 (see Group XXXV). Each blower 10 is located in a tube 9 which connects with an air reservoir consisting of tubes 14 and 15. Volume changes of the air space due to temperature &,c. are corrected by a reversible compressor which is connected to the reservoir by a pipe 16, and also to atmosphere. The blowers 10 may be replaced by flap valves arranged to pass air from a high pressure reservoir or to a low pressure reservoir. The reservoir may comprise two horizontal plates spaced apart vertically and bounded by the hull, the motors 11 being placed above. The openings of the tubes 9 may be replaced by longitudinal and transverse slots in the hull bottom.
