Abstract

In the production of the preliminary metal superheated steam may be added to the oxygen to enable a carbon content of 2% to be obtained before recarburizing by the addition of electrode scrap and the addition of ferromanganese and ferrosilicon. It is stated that a pig iron having more than 4% carbon and less than 0.1% phosphorus may be obtained.
