Abstract
In a process for the synthetic production of pig iron a metal produced by the process of the parent Specification is subjected to recarburization and the addition of the required amounts of silicon and manganese. In the production of the preliminary metal superheated steam may be added to the oxygen to enable a carbon content of 2% to be obtained before recarburizing by the addition of electrode scrap and the addition of ferromanganese and ferrosilicon. It is stated that a pig iron having more than 4% carbon and less than 0.1% phosphorus may be obtained.
