Abstract

860,450. Selective punching devices. ATVIDABERGS INDUSTRIER A.B. June 9, 1959 [June 17, 1958], No. 19734/59. Class 31 (2). A device for selectively punching holes in a tape 40 comprises a plurality of punches 60 co-operable with pivoted bell-cranks 48, 50 carried by a vertically reciprocating slide 39, the arrangement being such that during upward displacement of the slide, arms 48a, 50a of the bell-cranks engage adjustable stops 29, 30 so that the other arms 48b, 50b of the bell-cranks are moved, against the action of leaf springs 54, 55, into operative positions in which they are selectively retained by the energization of electromagnets 17 to 22, the leaf springs being arranged, during the downward movement of the slide, to return to their inoperative positions all bell-cranks not retained by electromagnets during which downward movement of the slide the operative bell-cranks actuate the corresponding punches 60 to punch the tape 40. The punches are supported by spring wires 64 carried by a fixed bridge 31, Fig. 2. The slide 39 is reciprocated by means of cranks 34 mounted on the main shaft 7. At least the arms 48b, 50b of the bell-cranks are of magnetic material. To enable the tape to be fed through analysing means, an actuating member 46 fixed on the slide co-operates with a punch 59 to punch a hole in the tape in each punching cycle. The energization of the electromagnets is synchronized with the motion of the slide by means of a pointer fixed on the main shaft and consisting at least partially of magnetic material, the pointer being adapted to move through an air gap in a magnetic circuit to control the current supply to the electromagnets.
