Abstract

860,065. Concrete piles. RAYMOND INTERNATIONAL Inc. Nov. 16, 1959 [Dec. 26 1958], No. 38689/59. Class 68(2). A method of forming a cast-in-situ concrete pile which has an enlarged base comprises driving into the ground an assembly consisting of a mandrel 20, casing 21 and a shoe 22. When driving is completed a charge of concrete 23 is placed between the mandrel and casing, the casing is withdrawn a short distance and the concrete is forced down by a tamping device 26, which has an enlarged end 27. The presence of the mandrel 20 ensures the dispersal of the concrete into a symmetrical enlargement. Thereafter the tamper is removed, additional concrete is poured between the casing and mandrel and when this has set the mandrel is removed, and the cavity is filled with concrete to form a solid pile.
